Step 1: Consultation
Your first step towards getting rid of those troublesome thread veins is to visit Aesthetics Lab for an initial consultation. This is the time to tell us what you want to achieve from the treatment.
We’ll examine your thread veins or vascular blemishes and explain more about how ThermaVein works, as well as discussing other potential treatment options. You will leave the appointment with a clear understanding of what ThermaVein could achieve for you.
Working with you, we’ll create a personalised treatment plan that’s tailored to your skin, your goals, and your budget.
Step 2: During your treatment
You will have your ThermaVein treatment in one of our beautiful, relaxing treatment rooms.
ThermaVein uses a high-frequency current to send pinpoint heat energy into the veins we want to disappear. This tiny burst of heat causes the vein to collapse on contact so that it breaks down and is reabsorbed by your body.
We deliver this precision heat using a sterile, single-use ultra-fine needle (think the thickness of a single hair) in an insulated handheld applicator. Some people say the sensation of the treatment is like having individual hairs plucked with a pair of tweezers but every patient is different. What you feel will also depend on your own tolerance and the area/issue being treated. For example, ThermaVein treatment for skin tags can be slightly more intensive in a concentrated area.
The treatment will take approximately 15 minutes.
Step 3: After the treatment
You may notice tiny red circular marks where the treated vein was for a couple of hours post-treatment. This is where the applicator entered the vein. These marks will quickly disappear. They may then be replaced by a micro-scab that drops off after a couple of days.
Avoid intense exercise, saunas, steam rooms, and sun exposure for 48 hours after treatment.
You will be asked to attend a follow-up appointment four to six weeks after your first treatment to determine whether you need a second or third round of ThermaVein.
How many treatments will I need?
In many cases, one treatment is enough to deliver noticeable and lasting results. If your veins or vascular blemishes are more prominent, you may need a second or third appointment. This would be assessed during your routine follow-up about four weeks after your initial treatment.
It’s worth bearing in mind that although a vein treated with ThermaVein is permanently destroyed, other new veins can develop over time.
How does ThermaVein work?
ThermaVein uses a process known as thermocoagulation. This means a quick burst of energy is delivered via an insulated needle directly into a targeted vein. This causes the blood in the vein to heat up and coagulate or solidify, making the vein collapse. It is then reabsorbed by the body with no after-effects.
How does ThermaVein compare to other thread vein treatments?
Unlike thread vein treatments with IPL lasers, ThermaVein doesn’t carry any risk of pigmentation loss. It can also be used to treat a variety of vascular blemishes and troublesome red veins.
Is ThermaVein treatment painful?
You might feel a slight stinging sensation very much like hair being plucked. How noticeable this is will depend on you and the area being treated.
